Energy bills on the rise again - check out our easy energy-saving tips

Energy bills are going up again this April, by an average of over £100 per year.

Is it time to consider whether you’re using your boiler, heating and hot water systems as efficiently as possible?

Your boiler and central heating account for around 60 per cent of your annual energy spend, so there’s almost always room for saving energy and money on your energy bills.

Here’s some simple tips for protecting your pocket, from us at Sidcup’s XP Plumbing and Heating…

Wrap up warm

Just like you, your boiler, hot water pipes and your home work better when they’re warm and cosy. Check the lagging on your pipes, use draught excluders, and close curtains at night to keep in heat.

Look for the places around your home where the heat you’ve already paid for can escape!

Get hands-on with your dials

Don’t be shy about getting hands-on with your thermostat. Research shows that turning your heating down just one degree could save you ten per cent on your energy spend.

Try turning your central heating temperature down just a little before you go to bed, or if you’re going out for the day. If you’re not going to need those extra degrees, why pay for them?

Say goodbye to your old boiler

If you’ve got an old workhorse of a boiler, it might be hurting your pocket more than you think - even if it’s never landed you with an expensive repair bill.

Research by the Energy Saving Trust shows that replacing your old boiler with a modern, A-rated unit could save you hundreds of pounds a year.

In the short term it might feel like an expense rather than a saving, but it’s an investment that’ll save you money in the long-run.

Get yourself covered

…and we don’t mean with a hat, scarf and gloves (although that’s one way to save on your heating bills!)

If the thought of an unexpected breakdown and repair bill gives you the shivers, consider an annual cover plan from XP Plumbing and Heating of Sidcup.

If you’re in Sidcup, Eltham, Bexleyheath, Bromley, Greenwich - or further afield in London and north Kent - our ‘eXPert’ cover plans, from £18.50 a month, will insulate you and your wallet against breakdowns and unplanned repair bills.
